When Fran got in touch with me it was because I had photographed her best friend Aida's birthday a few months prior and she loved the photos and my style of shooting and wanted me on board. Birthday parties are loads of fun to shoot, especially landmarks like 21st birthdays because everyone is having fun, the drink is flowing and the atmosphere is always electric! Remembering how much fun Aida's birthday was, and how great her bunch of friends were, I was looking forward to Fran's party.
The venue was a private members arts club called Vout-O-Reenee's which is a wonderfully eclectic bar underneath a Roman Catholic church (!) near the Tower of London. Yes, its just as amazing as it sounds! The walls were painted in incredible fresco's which Fran (in a gorgeous red chiffon dress) insisted all the group photos were taken in front of.
The night began as a family get-together, with uncles and aunts coming from all over the world to celebrate, and ended as a full on party with speeches, LOTS of shenanigans (including some lovely Lilies being claimed from the bar!) and a decent amount of white wine consumed! This was all to a soundtrack of crate-dug Motown and soul mixed in with modern pop hits courtesy of Fran's record label owning dad Alan - definitely one of the coolest playlists I've heard at a party yet!
Check out my favourite photos from the night below.
I love photographing Birthday parties, and any other special occasions. If you're having a party and want it captured in style please get in touch and let's have a chat!
